If you are suffering from dental pain, damage, or infection, Deerpath Dental Specialists can help. Our highly skilled endodontics team has the state-of-the-art technology and advanced techniques to diagnose your dental pain and perform root canal procedures and other restorations. We can help to alleviate your pain and save your natural teeth.

When Should You Visit Our Endodontist?

If you have severe dental pain, our endodontics team can perform the necessary procedures to save your teeth. In many severe cases, a root canal procedure is necessary to remove infected or damaged pulp tissue from within the tooth. This infection or inflammation can be caused by a number of problems, including tooth decay, trauma, a broken tooth, or even repeated procedures. If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, it is important that you visit Deerpath Dental Specialists as soon as possible:

  • Toothaches
  • Prolonged dental sensitivity to heat or cold
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums or face
  • Discoloration
  • Injury

If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, it is important that you visit our offices right away. By visiting the endodontist immediately, you increase the chances of eliminating the infection and saving your natural tooth.

What Can You Expect During a Root Canal Procedure?

A root canal procedure removes infected soft tissue known as pulp from within the tooth’s root. This tissue—which connects the tip of the roots to the crown of your tooth—is not necessarily vital to the survival of your tooth. Therefore, by removing this substance, your endodontist will be able to salvage your natural tooth.

If you need to have this procedure, here are a few steps you can expect to take throughout this process.

  1. First, we will take an x-ray to review the extent of the damage within the tooth, as well as see if there has been an abscess beneath the surface.
  2. Using a local anesthetic, we will numb to the tooth and surrounding tissue. Because of this, you can expect the procedure to be a pain-free experience (despite the common myth that root canal procedures are thought to be painful).
  3. We will then protect the procedure site and keep away moisture by placing a rubber dam around the surgical site.
  4. Using a drill, we will make a small opening in the crown of the tooth.
  5. We will remove the infected pulp, bacteria, and debris from within the tooth. Then, we will insert an antibacterial medication to kill any remaining infection.
  6. To allow the surgical site to heal, we will place a temporary filling over the tooth. This will later be replaced with a permanent filling.
  7. Once the tooth has healed, we will place a permanent, custom-made crown over the tooth to restore its structure and appearance.

Many patients who have received this treatment experience immediate pain relief. However, should you experience any soreness, an over-the-counter pain medication will be sufficient in alleviating these symptoms.
